I’m Abby, and I love life
I’m a self-taught artist and have been drawing since the day I could pick up a pencil. I specialize in colored pencil portraiture, illustration, mixed media painting, and abstract expressionism. I love experimenting with different mediums and am the first person to have ever used engine soot from an orbital rocket to create a painting. I’ve designed mission patches, emblems, logos, various internal team art, and even a cold brew coffee tap handle for rocket companies like SpaceX, ULA, and Aerojet Rocketdyne. I have also written and illustrated multiple children’s books and comics, as well as illustrated books for other authors, like retired NASA Astronaut Ron Garan and Education Expert Marsha Thauwald. You can check out my latest book HERE. Seeing kids’ eyes light up with awe and excitement is one of the primary reasons why I do what I do. That and giving back to the engineers and dreamers who make spaceflight happen in a way is a huge motivator behind my artwork and school presentations. I believe art is a powerful way to communicate scientific concepts in relatable ways and ignite curiosity, so I absolutely love speaking at schools!
In addition to art and spaceflight, I have an academic background in psychology & neuroscience, research, project management, organizational behavior & leadership, community health, curriculum and training development, consulting, performance coaching, and now nursing (RN). I know that’s a long list….continuously learning and growing as a person are important to me. I think it’s important to never lose one’s sense of wonder and curiosity. In the near future, I plan on bringing spaceflight medicine and my nursing education into the mix of inspirations behind my art. I will always be a space artist, but don’t be surprised if medical references enter the picture!
