Alan Bean: The Original Starman (Print)
About the Art:
Portrait print in memory of Apollo 12 Astronaut Alan Bean. This piece in colored pencil depicts NASA Astronaut Alan Bean in his EVA suit orbiting the Moon in his gold and black 1969 Corvette Stingray, also known as an “Astrovette.” The orbital trail of gold and silver stardust pays homage to a detail from the original Apollo 12 mission patch. The concept of this portrait was inspired by the SpaceX Starman (a mannequin in a SpaceX flight suit riding in Elon Musk’s cherry red Tesla Roadster on its way to Mars) launched on the Falcon Heavy maiden flight. I was present for that launch and it was one of the most thrilling moments of my life. Alan Bean was a huge inspiration for me both as an astronaut and as an artist. I wanted to create a portrait in honor of him and “Alan Bean: The Original Starman” came to mind, giving birth to this piece. A signed and numbered print (1/50) was presented to his daughter as a gift at Spacefest IX. This piece is very special to me personally.
SHIPPING: Shipped in a poster tube via USPS First Class or Priority Mail within the US and Canada only. Please choose the appropriate shipping method for your needs. Depending on how many and what type of items are attached to a single order, all the items might be sent in a tube or in separate packages. If you need an item to arrive in time for a certain date, please email me (in addition to selecting the appropriate shipping speed) at abbygarretturgent@gmail.com with "ORDER DATE" in the subject line. I normally have over 2,000 emails in my box at any given time, so this will help yours stand out.
Shipping in Tubes vs. Flat: Prints have always been shipped in poster tubes from this website without any problem. This is the result of product testing that took place in 2015. In addition, all hand-signed art prints are placed into the tube directly by the artist without exception.
• If you require your print to be shipped FLAT in a box or any other specifics, please attach a note to your order and email help@abbygarrett.com or abbygarretturgent@gmail.com with "FLAT SHIPPING" in the subject line.
• Hundreds of prints have been sent via tube without problem. The print may arrive slightly curved or rolled after removal from the tube (as a result of being in the tube), but is easy to flatten and will lay flat when framed. Feel free to ask if you need advice for how to achieve this. Creases, especially "permanent" creases or those that cause slight tear in the paper will only appear if: 1) the tube is handled incorrectly during shipping (which would be indicated by obvious damage to the tube), or 2) due to recipient error if the print was removed in a less than desirable fashion. The second scenario is more likely and it is suggested that prints be removed as carefully as possible from the tube. Prints are placed near the edge to help with this. Refund or replacement requests will only be considered if the item is damaged and if the recipient provides sufficient evidence (photos) depicting obvious damage. This is handled on a case-by-case basis and more info on this can be found in the Full Return Policy. (Section edited Dec. 2019)
